Grilled Asam Prawns

Savor these delicious and fulfilling fried prawns covered with tangy tamarind pulp marinade which gives it a sharp, pungent, and mouthwatering flavor.

  • 500 gm medium-sized prawns (deveined & cleaned)
  • 2-1/2 tbsp tamarind pulp
  • 3/4 tsp dark soy sauce
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1/3 tsp salt
  • 1/3 cup peanut oil
  • chopped spring onions & lettuce (for garnish)


  1. Take a large bowl and add tamarind pulp, soy sauce, sugar, and salt in it.
  2. Whip with a spoon for a minute.
  3. Add prawns and combine everything well with your hands.
  4. Seal the bowl with aluminum foil and refrigerate for at least 1 or 2 hours.
  5. Heat peanut oil in a wok on a high flame.
  6. Add marinated prawns in it.
  7. Toss and stir fry for about 4 to 5 minutes.
  8. Garnish with chopped spring onions and lettuce.
  9. Serve hot.
