You can take locally available prawns but make sure you're not using frozen ones. As always, I prefer to use minimal ingredients for the seasoning when grilling or barbecuing seafood or white meat. The combination of sharp ginger with fresh green onion bulbs induces a unique flavor in the recipe and adds the required zing. Prawns get done quickly when sizzling on a hot grill so make sure you remove them quickly to avoid burns. Serve them with a bowl of spicy sauce and your favorite beverage to complete the party. Barbecued prawn skewers with ginger and pepper

Enjoy these grilled prawn skewers which are flavored with freshly grated ginger and green onion bulbs which enhance the overall taste with fresh lemon juice.

Preparation Time: 40 minutes
Cooking time: 5 minutes
Servings: 4

  • 500 gm prawns (cleaned)
  • 1 cup green onion bulbs (coarsely grated)
  • 25 gm fresh ginger (peeled and finely grated)
  • 3 to 4 green chilies (finely grated)
  • 5 to 6 tsp lime juice
  • few drops of rice vinegar (optional)
  • pinch of white pepper powder
  • few chopped green onion leaves (for garnish)
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • salt to taste


  1. Take a large bowl and add all the prawns in it.
  2. Follow it with addition of lime juice, rice vinegar, white pepper powder, olive oil and salt.
  3. Mix well with your hands and keep aside for half an hour.
  4. In a separate bowl mix grated green onion bulbs, ginger and green chilies. Keep aside.
  5. Prepare a grill with a high temperature.
  6. Thread all the marinated prawns within skewers and grill from both the sides for 2 minutes each.
  7. Take a serving plate and arrange the grilled prawn skewers.
  8. Add salt in the onion and ginger mix.
  9. Immediately spread it evenly on all the piping hot grilled prawn skewers.
  10. Garnish with few chopped green onion leaves and serve immediately.
