Delicious Omu rice

Do try this popular Japanese recipe consisting of flavored rice rolled inside omelet which makes it a fulfilling and delicious serving you can relish anytime.

Preparation Time: 25 minutes
Cooking time: 30 minutes
Servings: 4

  • 3 to 4 eggs
  • 2 cups Japanese cooked rice
  • 1 tsp light soy sauce
  • 1 chicken breast (cut into 1" pieces)
  • 1/4 cup mixed vegetables (parboiled)
  • 1 small onion (chopped)
  • 1/4 tsp ground pepper
  • 1 green chili (finely chopped)
  • 4 to 5 tsp tomato ketchup
  • refined oil for frying
  • salt to taste


  1. Heat 2 tsp refined oil in a wok.
  2. Add chopped onions with green chili and saute for about 2 minutes.
  3. Add chicken breast pieces and saute for 3 to 4 minutes.
  4. Add veggies and toss for a minute.
  5. Finally add rice and season with soy sauce, ground pepper and salt.
  6. Toss and stir fry for about 4 to 5 minutes on a high flame.
  7. Add salt in eggs and whip them for a minute.
  8. Heat refined oil in a flat nonstick frying pan.
  9. Pour whipped eggs in it and spread them on the pan.
  10. Let them cook from both sides for 2 minutes each on a medium flame.
  11. Place cooked fried rice in between and roll the omelet carefully.
  12. Pour tomato ketchup on top and serve hot with your favorite salad.
