Spicy Rock Ling and Pumpkin CurryDifferent varieties of fish can be made in different ways to get a unique recipe every time. Today, we're going to use a combination of ripe pumpkin with delicious rockling fish. If you cannot find this fish in your local market, you can replace it with red snapper or kingfish. This curry dish is quite spicy which can be toned down if required. To give it a twist, you can also use fresh coconut milk for the curry base. Adding bottle gourd with pumpkin can easily increase the number of servings. Both fish and pumpkin are tender so you must take great care while making this recipe. You can even add some raw pumpkin paste within this delicious curry to get a nice flavorful and creamy consistency.

Hot pumpkin and fish curry

Savor this spicy and rich curry recipe consisting of rockling fish fillets with ripe pumpkin simmered in a creamy curry base with pungent and tasty spices.

Servings: 5

  • 400 gm ripe pumpkin (diced)
  • 500 gm rock ling fillets (sliced)
  • 1 tomato (nice & big)
  • 1/4 tsp Szechuan peppers (coarsely ground)
  • 5 tsp fresh soy milk
  • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1/4 tsp paprika
  • 50 gm red onion paste
  • 3 cups vegetable stock
  • 1/2 tsp fish sauce
  • 1 tsp dark soy sauce
  • 4 tsp peanut oil
  • salt to taste


  1. Wash pumpkin and fish in cold water and keep aside.
  2. Cut thin slices of tomato and keep aside.
  3. Take a deep sauce pan and heat peanut oil in it.
  4. Add ginger garlic paste and saute for a minute.
  5. Add onion paste and stir fry on a high flame for a minute.
  6. Add pumpkin and fish and season with Szechuan peppers, soy milk, paprika, fish sauce, dark soy sauce and salt.
  7. Gently toss and saute for 2 to 3 minutes.
  8. Add vegetable stock with tomato slices and once stir gently.
  9. Cover the lid and simmer for 15 minutes.
  10. Serve hot with bread or rice.
