Today's prawn recipe includes pungent and zingy flavored sesame and tomato sauce. Use cherry tomatoes and that too in blanched form to get the best results. You can take your favorite prawn variety. Instead of sauce with a thick consistency, you can make a gravy version of the same recipe. If you do not like sesame seeds, you can substitute it with pine nuts too. Leftovers of this recipe can be shredded and can be mixed with spicy salsa to be filled with your favorite corn tacos. The spicier version of this delicious and juicy recipe can be made by adding some fresh red chili flakes right before serving.

Tangy and nutty stir fried prawns

Enjoy these delicious stir-fried prawns recipe cooked with a unique sauce base made with sesame seeds and fresh tomatoes for a unique and delicate flavor.

Servings: 4

  • 600 gm prawns
  • 250 gm cherry tomatoes (blanched)
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds
  • 3 to 4 garlic cloves (mashed)
  • 1 tsp red chili paste
  • 1 shallot (finely chopped)
  • few drops of apple vinegar
  • 1/2 cup chicken or vegetable stock
  • few basil leaves
  • 3 tsp olive oil
  • salt to taste


  1. Wash all the prawns under running water and keep aside.
  2. Take a deep sauce pan and add blanched and mashed cherry tomatoes in it.
  3. Coarsely grind sesame seeds and add in the sauce pan.
  4. Add stock with chili paste and salt.
  5. Put the pan on a low flame and continuously stir till the sauce is reduced completely.
  6. Heat olive oil in a nonstick pan and add mashed garlic cloves in it.
  7. Saute for about 2 minutes and add finely chopped shallot.
  8. Saute for 2 to 3 minutes and add prawns with sesame and tomato sauce prepared earlier.
  9. Stir fry on a high flame for about 3 to 4 minutes.
  10. Add fresh basil leaves, apple vinegar and salt and simmer on a low flame for about 5 minutes.
  11. Serve hot with bread or rice.
