Honey Braised Chicken with Veg Fried RiceHoney is a natural medicine and is ideal for daily consumption in small quantities. Today's chicken recipe uses this wonderful natural ingredient for making a delicious chicken preparation. To make it wholesome, we've also included fried vegetable rice. You can repeat this same process with duck or turkey meat too. Since chicken meat is quite tender and cooks very quickly, use honey in a moderate amount on a low flame. Since this recipe has a mildly sweet flavor, keep the vegetable fried rice bit spicy to compliment it well. Although I've used large chicken pieces for this recipe, you can cut them into small parts too. Do not refrigerate it for a long time as the moist chicken may disintegrate and may not taste best.

Delicious combo of sweet chicken and spicy fried veg rice

Enjoy this lip-smacking combination of sweet chicken recipe served with aromatic and scrumptious vegetable fried rice preparation making it a complete meal.

Cooking time: 40 minutes
Servings: 4

  • 1 large chicken
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 3 tsp soy sauce
  • 2 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1/4 tsp white pepper powder
  • 1/4 tsp cornstarch
  • 3 cups long grain rice
  • 1/4 cup peas
  • 1/4 cup carrots (sliced or chopped)
  • 1/4 cup tomatoes (chopped)
  • 1 onion (sliced)
  • 1 tsp red curry paste
  • 1 green chili (finely chopped)
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • salt to taste


  1. Cut chicken into 4 pieces and wash it well under running water.
  2. Soak rice overnight in water.
  3. Take 1 tsp ginger garlic paste, white pepper powder, soy sauce, pinch of salt and honey in a small bowl. Keep 3 tsp honey separate.
  4. Mix all these ingredients well and apply on chicken inside out.
  5. Refrigerate for at least 15 minutes.
  6. Heat 3 to 4 tsp of olive oil in a shallow frying pan.
  7. Keep the flame low and add honey coated chicken pieces in it.
  8. Cook it slowly turning the pieces at regular intervals for about 10 minutes.
  9. Take the remaining honey in a small cup and add cornstarch in it.
  10. Mix it well and add to the chicken pieces.
  11. Glaze it well on a medium flame for about 2 to 3 minutes and bring down from the flame.
  12. Take a large wok and add 5 to 6 tsp olive oil.
  13. As the oil heats up, add sliced onions in it.
  14. Saute till onion turns light pink.
  15. Add remaining ginger garlic paste and saute for 2 more minutes.
  16. Add green chili and tomatoes.
  17. Stir fry till tomatoes and tender and mashed.
  18. Add peas and carrots with turmeric powder and red curry paste.
  19. Add quarter cup of water and mix well.
  20. Let it simmer for about 3 minutes.
  21. Add rice, salt and 2 glasses of water.
  22. Cover it and simmer for about 12 minutes on a low flame.
  23. Serve honey braised chicken and vegetable fried rice in a large serving plate.
