Today, we're trying to make a variant of this recipe that's as aromatic as the original one. If some of the ingredients are not available in your area, you can use a substitute for the same. Fresh basil leaves have no substitute and are one of the important parts of this recipe. You can definitely substitute the type of cheese used in this preparation. You can also add green onions and potatoes while boiling the spaghetti to make it more fulfilling. The same method can be used for making pasta which can be further enhanced with a spicy seasoning. Pesto flavored classic spaghetti

Relish this classic Italian spaghetti preparation flavored with generous amount of basil pesto drenched in extra virgin olive oil with delicious tomatoes.

Servings: 4

  • 300 gm spaghetti
  • 4 cups fresh basil leaves
  • 3 to 4 ginger cloves
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese (grated)
  • 1 green chili
  • 2 tomatoes (chopped)
  • 1 red pepper (slit and remove seeds)
  • oodles of extra virgin olive oil


  1. Add 1/2 tsp salt in the boiling water and add spaghetti to it.
  2. Boil on a medium flame for about 5 minutes and drain the extra water.
  3. Add basil leaves, ginger cloves, green chili and 4 tsp olive oil to the blender.
  4. Mash it till it forms a paste.
  5. Take it out from the blender and add Parmesan cheese.
  6. Mix and mash it well till the cheese is completely mixed.
  7. Add more olive oil and keep mixing till the right consistency is reached.
  8. Saute chopped tomatoes and slit red pepper in little olive oil for about a minute.
  9. Take a large serving plate and put a thin layer of pesto at the bottom.
  10. Arrange lightly fried tomatoes and red pepper.
  11. Place boiled spaghetti on it and pour basil pesto on top.
  12. Mix it well and serve hot with your favorite drink.
