Pumpkin and Sweet Potato Soup

Pumpkin and sweet potato soupPumpkin is one of my favorite vegetables and I consume it in various forms. One of the best ways to include pumpkin in your general diet is to make different kind of soups from it. It can form the base for several types of soups. Today I'm gong to share a soup that includes pumpkin as the primary ingredient. This soup also includes sweet potato and several other nourishing vegetables and herbs. This is a vegetarian soup but you can also use chicken stock to give it a new twist. This soup should be served half an hour before the dinner. You can also consume it in the breakfast with sandwiches and salad. The consistency of this soup is fairly thick, but you can change it as per your preferences.

Creamy pumpkin and sweet potato soup bowl

Once make this simmering and appetizing soup bowl made with ripe pumpkin slices and fresh sweet potatoes which tastes so creamy and light at the same time.

Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 40 minutes
Servings: 4

  • 500 gm pumpkin
  • 250 gm sweet potatoes
  • 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
  • 2 to 3 bay leaves
  • 1/4 tsp white pepper powder
  • 1/5 tsp cumin seeds powder (roasted)
  • 1 medium-sized onion (finely chopped)
  • 1/4 cup fresh cream
  • 500 ml vegetable stock
  • salt to taste
  • 2 tsp vegetable oil


  1. Peel and cut pumpkin & sweet potato into 2" pieces.
  2. Heat 2 tbsp vegetable oil in a pan.
  3. Add onions and saute for 2 to 3 minutes.
  4. Add ginger garlic paste and saute for 2 more minutes.
  5. Add pumpkin and sweet potato and fry for a minute.
  6. Add vegetable stock and simmer for about 30 minutes.
  7. Add fresh cream and roasted cumin seeds powder.
  8. Stir well and simmer for 5 more minutes.
  9. Take out bay leaves and blend everything else into a fine puree.
  10. Add salt & pepper powder and mix well.
  11. Serve hot with roasted bread.
