You can fry tofu in different ways with different seasonings and batter base. Today's recipe is very simple and is a perfect companion for your evening tea time. I've tried to keep the overall flavor mild and subtle but you can add the spark by using some hot chilies. Roasted nuts add more kick to the preparation and give the required crunch in the recipe. If you do not prefer deep fried stuff, you can bake or roast them with little oil in a nonstick pan. Instead of bean curd, you can also use classic cottage cheese to make this yummy snack. You can also drizzle spicy dip on top of hot fried tofu before serving it to the hungry bellies. Let's make this yummy snack that's not only delicious but very nutritious as well.

Nutty crisp fried tofu

Do once try these crisp fried tofu slices which are delicately coated with flavorful batter and are served with roasted nuts and lightly fried chili peppers.

Preparation Time: 30 minutes
Cooking time: 15 minutes
Servings: 5

Ingredients:
  • 500 gm tofu (diced)
  • 3/4 cup refined flour
  • 1/4 cup semolina
  • 1/4 cup roasted nuts (coarsely ground)
  • 1 red chili (chopped)
  • 1 green chili (chopped)
  • 1 egg (whipped)
  • 1/4 tsp white pepper powder
  • 1 tsp lime juice
  • canola oil for deep frying
  • salt to taste

Instructions:

  1. Lightly saute both chopped red and green chilies for half a minute and keep aside.
  2. Take a bowl and add refined flour, semolina, whipped egg, white pepper powder, lime juice and salt in it.
  3. Slowly add lukewarm water and whip all the ingredients into a smooth and creamy batter.
  4. Add diced tofu pieces in the batter and keep aside for at least 15 minutes.
  5. Heat canola oil in a deep frying pan on a medium heat.
  6. Fry all the batter coated tofu pieces till they turn light brown.
  7. Place on the blotting paper to remove excess oil.
  8. Take a serving plate and place all the fried tofu pieces in it.
  9. Sprinkle coarsely ground roasted nuts on top of it.
  10. Garnish with lightly fried red and green chilies and serve hot.
