The following recipe includes extremely flavorful Assam fish that is fried to perfection before flavoring it with an equally delicious curry base. Instead of deep frying whole fish, one can also use baked fillets. You should serve this recipe with steamed or boiled rice. Alternatively, leftovers of this recipe can be included in fried rice. If Assam fish is not available in your locality, use fresh king fish fillets. You can easily refrigerate this recipe for up to a day. Spicy Assam fish with hot shrimp curry

Savor this crisp fried Assam fish recipe which is served with extremely delicious shrimp curry which is not only spicy but also aromatic with a divine taste.

Ingredients:
  • 2 to 3 fresh Assam fish
  • 3/4 cup shrimp meat puree
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp coriander seeds powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seed powder
  • 1/4 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 150 gm onion paste
  • 200 gm tomato puree
  • 2 tsp lime juice
  • pinch of ground pepper
  • coriander sprigs (for garnish)
  • refined oil for deep frying
  • 3 tsp groundnut oil
  • salt to taste

Instructions:

  1. Wash fish well under running water and make deep cuts within it through a sharp knife.
  2. Apply lime juice on the fish and sprinkle ground pepper and salt.
  3. Keep the fish aside for at least 15 minutes.
  4. Heat refined oil in a deep frying pan on a medium flame.
  5. Fry lightly marinated Assam fish till it turns light brown.
  6. Place fried fish on a blotting paper to remove excess oil.
  7. Heat groundnut oil in a nonstick frying pan.
  8. Add ginger garlic paste and saute for about a minute.
  9. Add onion paste and stir fry till it turns light pink.
  10. Add turmeric powder, coriander seeds powder, cumin seeds powder, paprika and tomato puree.
  11. Add shrimp puree with salt and simmer for about 4 to 5 minutes.
  12. Add one cup of water and once stir before closing the lid.
  13. Simmer till the curry reaches think consistency.
  14. Pour the hot curry on the fried fish.
  15. Garnish with coriander sprigs and serve immediately.
