Oysters are known to lower cholesterol and strengthen immune system. To get the maximum benefit, instead of roasting or deep frying them, go for a steamed recipe. That's what we've done in the following delicious preparation. Boiled black beans are also added in this recipe that adds more nutritional value to this recipe. And, we all know how good garlic for heart is. Its sauce is included to complete this healthy, tasty and irresistible main course meal. You can use the same ingredients to make steamed red snapper too. My family members prefer this recipe as a starter though I love to eat them with rice. Always prepare and serve these oysters fresh as the refrigerated version tends to get bit bland.

Flavored and steamed oysters

Try this unique, simple and nutritious preparation made with oysters which are steamed to perfection and are flavored with hot garlic and beans sauce.

Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Cooking time: 50 minutes
Servings: 5

Ingredients:
  • 500 gm oysters
  • 3/4th cup black beans (boiled & mashed)
  • 8 to 10 garlic cloves (mashed)
  • pinch of white pepper powder
  • pinch of red chili powder
  • 1 tsp lime juice
  • 1/2 tsp ginger paste
  • 1/2 tsp light soy sauce
  • 2 tsp tomato sauce
  • 6 tsp extra virgin olive oil
  • salt to taste

Instructions:

  1. Heat 2 tsp olive oil in a flat pan.
  2. Add tomato sauce and light soy sauce in it and simmer on a low flame for about 2 minutes.
  3. Add mashed garlic with a pinch of salt.
  4. Stir and simmer for 2 minutes. Keep aside.
  5. Wash all the oysters and take out the flesh in a bowl from all the shells.
  6. Mix garlic sauce in it prepared earlier.
  7. Add mashed black beans too with white pepper powder, red chili powder, lime juice, ginger paste, 4 tsp olive oil and salt.
  8. Mix all the ingredients well with a large spoon.
  9. Fill scoopful of seasoned oyster meat back in the shells.
  10. Place them carefully in the bamboo steamer.
  11. Steam for about 25 minutes.
  12. Serve hot with chili or tomato sauce.
