Squids or calamari is one of the delicious and nutritious sea foods available to people living in coastal areas. Though the frozen or canned version is good enough for general consumption, you cannot get the best flavor that comes from a fresh squid meat. Following recipe includes fresh and seasoned grilled calamari slices with equally delicious Greek salad. There's a lot of scope of bringing variation in this recipe by changing salad ingredients as well as adding shrimps with squid slices. To get the best results, use fresh coarsely grounded oregano in the right proportion for the salad. And, if you can arrange a charcoal grill for squid slices nothing can be better than that. Spicy grilled calamari with Greek salad

Enjoy this peppery and hot calamari which is grilled to perfection and is served with delicious Greek salad making it a wholesome and nutritious meal.

Ingredients:
  • 800 gm calamari slices
  • 1/4 cup red capsicum (diced)
  • 1/4 cup green capsicum (diced)
  • 1/4 cup red onions (diced)
  • 1/4 cup tomatoes (sliced)
  • 50 gm pickled green olives
  • 1/2 tsp oregano (coarsely grounded)
  • pinch of black pepper (coarsely grounded)
  • pinch of red chili flakes
  • 1 tsp dried green herbs
  • 2 tsp garlic cloves paste
  • few drops of apple vinegar
  • pinch of white pepper powder
  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • salt to taste

Instructions:

  1. Take a bowl with calamari slices in it.
  2. Add dried green herbs, garlic paste, apple vinegar, white pepper powder, 5 to 6 tsp olive oil and salt in it.
  3. Rub the seasoning well on the slices and keep aside for at least 10 minutes.
  4. Take a salad bowl and add red capsicum, green capsicum, red onions, tomatoes and pickled olives in it.
  5. Season it with oregano powder, black pepper powder, red chili flakes and a pinch of salt.
  6. Take a flat nonstick pan and heat 3 tsp olive oil in it.
  7. Quickly toss the seasoned salad in it for about 2 minutes and keep aside.
  8. Take a grill pan and grease it well with olive oil.
  9. Place calamari slices on it dipped in marinade.
  10. Switch the flame to medium and grill from both sides for 4 to 5 minutes each.
  11. Take a serving plate and place generous amount of peppery Greek salad in it.
  12. Top it with grilled calamari slices and serve hot.
