Today we have yet another classic Indian recipe that is quite popular in northern parts of this country. Although it is cooked throughout the year but winter brings fresh peas that helps in preparation of this delicacy more frequently. You can either take ready made cottage cheese or can prepare it at home. The latter version will give you the best results. You can also add potatoes or soy nuggets in this gravy. Generally this recipe is consumed with steamed rice or bread. Right before serving, do not forget to garnish it with freshly chopped coriander. You can also prepare a variant of this dish with gravy of slightly thick consistency. Let's make this creamy, tangy and nutritious cheese recipe in a few easy steps.

Spicy curry of cottage cheese and peas

Make this classic Indian cottage cheese and peas preparation spiced up with creamy and delicious gravy flavored with hot and flavorful spices and herbs.

Servings: 6

Ingredients:
  • 400 gm cottage cheese cubes
  • 10 gm ginger
  • 6 garlic cloves
  • refined oil for deep frying
  • 400 gm onions (grated)
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 2 tsp coriander seeds powder
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds powder
  • 300 gm tomatoes (finely chopped)
  • 1 cup peas
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
  • small bunch of coriander leaves (chopped)
  • salt to taste

Instructions:

  1. Make a fine paste of ginger and garlic. Keep aside.
  2. Heat 2 to 3 cups refined oil in a deep pan and fry all the cottage cheese cubes till they turn light brown.
  3. Heat 1/4 cup of oil in a pressure cooker.
  4. Saute onions on a medium flame till they turn golden brown.
  5. Add ginger garlic paste and stir fry for about half a minute.
  6. Add turmeric powder, paprika, coriander seeds powder, cumin seeds powder, salt, tomatoes and 1/4 cup of water.
  7. Saute for about 5 minutes on a medium flame.
  8. Add peas and stir fry for 2 minutes. Add 2 cups of water.
  9. Close the cooker lid and cook for about 2 minutes after a whistle.
  10. Remove the cooker from flame and open the lid.
  11. Put it back on a medium flame and add fried cheese cubes.
  12. Simmer for about 5 minutes.
  13. Sprinkle garam masala powder and switch off the flame.
  14. Garnish with chopped coriander and serve immediately.
