Cheese in any form is relished by my kids, provided it is fresh and is cooked well. Tofu is quite versatile and can be made in different forms. Today's pan-fried version is quite spicy and can be directly added to any form of noodles. Remember, every fried tofu recipe must be consumed within 24 hours else it may not taste good. You can generously sprinkle grated cheese over this recipe to make it more creamy and irresistible. Apart from carrots and Chinese cabbage, you can also add barleycorns and capsicum. If you're using homemade tofu, nothing can be better than that. Instead of using standard sauces and spices mentioned in the ingredients list, you can use local variants to get your preferred taste.

Crisp fried tofu with veggies

Relish this easy-to-make fried tofu recipe which includes veggies like carrots and cabbage and is flavored with sharp spices for a unique and fulfilling flavor.

Cooking time: 15 minutes
Servings: 4

Ingredients:
  • 400 gm tofu (sliced)
  • 1/2 cup carrots (diced)
  • 1 cup Chinese cabbage (shredded)
  • 1 tsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 1/4 tsp malt vinegar
  • 1/4 tsp paprika
  • pinch of garlic powder
  • 10 gm ginger (finely chopped)
  • 3 tsp cooking oil
  • 1 tsp extra virgin olive oil
  • salt to taste

Instructions:

  1. Heat oil in a wok on a medium flame for about 2 minutes.
  2. Add chopped ginger and saute for about one minute.
  3. Add cabbage with diced carrots and saute for 2 minutes.
  4. Add garlic powder and paprika and stir fry on a high flame for about one minute.
  5. Add tofu pieces and season it with oyster sauce, soy sauce, malt vinegar and a pinch of salt.
  6. Saute for about 5 minutes on a low flame.
  7. Switch off the flame and sprinkle some extra virgin olive oil on top.
  8. Toss it well and serve immediately with your favorite beverage.
