Onion rings can be made in different ways by changing the batter and seasoning. It's one of the most popular snacks consumed in several parts of the globe. Although potato-based snacks are preferred by most people, onion rings are not behind anymore. Good onion rings should be crispy from outside and onion flavor should not overwhelm the seasoning. The following onion ring recipe can be made easily at home with small number of ingredients. Make sure you take large and firm onions and make even rings to get the best results. You can keep these rings for 2 to 3 days in an airtight container. You can easily change the seasoning for these onion rings with local spices and aromatic herbs.

Crisp fried and flavorful onion rings

Don’t wait and quickly make this lip smacking snack perfect for tea time made from onion rings coated with spicy and crisp coating deep fried to perfection.

Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Cooking time: 20 minutes
Servings: 6

Ingredients:
  • 500 gm onions (big and firm)
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup semolina or bread crumbs
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp roasted cumin seeds powder
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper powder
  • pinch of baking powder
  • oil for deep frying
  • salt to taste

Instructions:

  1. Wash and peel all the onions and cut even 1" rings.
  2. Take a large bowl and add flour, onion powder, roasted cumin powder, cayenne pepper powder, baking powder and salt in it.
  3. Add 350 ml water in it and make a smooth batter.
  4. Dip all the onion rings in this batter and keep aside for at least 10 minutes.
  5. Heat oil in a large deep frying pan.
  6. Spread semolina or bread crumbs on a flat plate.
  7. Once oil heats up bring down the flame to medium.
  8. Take out an onion ring from the batter and apply semolina on it.
  9. Repeat this process with all the rings and fry them till light golden brown.
  10. Serve hot with a spicy dip or sauce.
