Chickpea Tortillas : A Healthy Snack

We're all familiar with chickpea that is rich in protein and tastes great. It is consumed in various forms across the world. Today we are going to make chickpea flour tortillas that are perfect for breakfast or can be taken as a healthy snack with evening tea. This is my mother's recipe which she learned from a neighbor and developed experimenting in the kitchen. You can do some variations to it to suit your taste. Addition of local herbs and spices can give it a unique taste. Generally, chickpea flour is used to make fritters in Indian subcontinent. You can add some semolina in this recipe to get some extra crunch. So, let's quickly shallow fry these yummy, flavorful and fulfilling chickpea flour tortillas.

Yummy Chickpea Tortillas

Light and delicious tortillas made with chickpea flour that is seasoned with select spices to make your breakfast full of the goodness of vital nutrients.

Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 20 minutes
Servings: 8

  • 400 gm chickpea flour
  • 1 large onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 medium sized tomatoes (diced in 1/2" pieces)
  • 6 green chillies (finely chopped)
  • 1/2" ginger piece paste
  • 1/4 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp carom seeds (roasted and slightly crushed)
  • 4 tbsp vegetable oil
  • salt to taste


1. Take chickpea flour in a large bowl and add 2 glasses of water. Add salt and whip it to form a batter.
2. Add all the ingredients except oil and continuously whip it till they mixed well in the batter.
3. Heat a flat non-stick frying pan and coat it with oil.
4. Spread the batter on the pan giving it a round tortilla shape. Put the flame on medium heat.
5. Sprinkle some oil on top and let it fry till light brown.
6. Turn the tortilla and let the other side fry till light brown.
7. Serve with your favorite sauce and tea.
