Cabbage is consumed in almost every part of the world in various forms. Chinese prefer it in soup that gives strength to Shaulin monks. It's one of the major ingredients in salad in different cultures. Here's a recipe that gives you an option to serve cabbage as a snack with tea. The preparation is light and promises to tantalize your taste buds. If you do not prefer to steam this recipe, you can grill or bake it. Similarly, slight changes in the seasoning ingredients can give you the local taste. Use small and tender cabbage for getting the best results. You can also make cut cabbage in halves instead of using them as whole. So, let's steam these yummy cabbages that tastes great and are light are well.

Steamed Spicy Cabbage Patties

Delicious steamed cabbage

Simple yet extremely delicious steamed cabbage patties seasoned with mouth watering herbs and spices which can eaten as a snack or as an appetizer.

Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 15 minutes
Servings: 6

  • 6 small and tender cabbages
  • 250 gm gram flour
  • 250 gm roasted peanuts (coarsely ground)
  • 5 to 6 green chilies (finely chopped)
  • 2-1/2 tbsp ginger paste
  • 10 gm white sesame seeds
  • 10 gm fennel seeds
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 2 tsp coriander powder
  • salt to taste


1. Roast all the spices in a flat pan till they are light brown.
2. Take the cabbage and make 2 deep cuts across, deep enough not to cut it into quarters.
3. Stuff the roasted spices nicely into the cabbage.
4. Take a steamer and oil brush the pan with oil. (to avoid sticking cabbage to the pan)
5. Steam cook till the cabbage is nicely done or turns slightly brown.
6. Sprinkle the leftover spices and serve with hot tea or coffee.
